The Power Plant Variable Spring Hanger uses a precision-wound helical spring mechanism housed in a welded steel casing. As the supported pipe moves vertically due to thermal expansion, the spring deflects and the load changes linearly according to Hooke’s law. This variable response is suitable for moderate-movement piping where small load variations remain within allowable nozzle stress limits. The hanger can be installed in rod-hung, floor-mounted, or ceiling-mounted orientations, with preset upper or lower travel stops matched to the calculated cold-to-hot displacement. Load adjustment is accomplished through a threaded turnbuckle or load column, and a visible travel scale on the casing allows quick verification of pipe position during operation and shutdown. These units are widely applied on steam extraction lines, boiler feedwater risers, reheater piping, and turbine bypass systems.
