Pre-insulated Pipe Supports for Oil and Gas

In oil and gas, an uninsulated pipe support creates more than heat loss — it risks wax deposition, hydrate formation, and CUI. Yangzhou Tianshun’s Pre-insulated Pipe Supports for Oil and Gas eliminate the cold bridge with HIC-tested steel, fire-rated insulation, and a factory-integrated vapor barrier. Request a quote, discuss your sour service requirements, or order with full documentation.

Oil and gas pipelines move more than just product. They move wax-prone crude that must stay above its pour point, wet gas that can form corrosive hydrates at a cold spot, and high-pressure condensate that cycles through rapid temperature swings. In these services, an uninsulated pipe support is more than an energy leak — it’s a process safety risk and a corrosion starting point. A properly pre-insulated support eliminates the cold bridge, integrates a vapor-tight envelope, and arrives on site as one load-tested assembly. No field-fabricated insulation. No guesswork.

Yangzhou Tianshun has delivered pre-insulated supports for upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas projects since 2012. Our assemblies are currently in service on desert production manifolds, offshore platform risers, and refinery steam tracing lines in over 45 countries. We build them to handle the specific challenges that set oil and gas piping apart: sour service materials, jet fire survivability, and insulation that won’t degrade when hydrocarbons soak into it.

Materials Selected for Sour and Corrosive Environments

In an oil and gas facility, the support steel can be exposed to H₂S, chlorides, and salt-laden air — sometimes all three at once. We don’t take chances with material selection. For sour service applications, we source carbon steel plates and sections that are HIC-tested (Hydrogen-Induced Cracking) per NACE TM0284, and the finished support can be supplied in full compliance with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156. Where chlorides are the main concern — offshore topsides, coastal terminals — we use 316L stainless steel for the support body and A4-80 bolting, removing the galvanic corrosion risk.

The insulation block itself is closed-cell to resist hydrocarbon absorption. For lines that carry crude, condensate, or fuel oil, we avoid open-cell materials that would wick oil and lose thermal performance. Cellular glass and high-density PIR are our default choices, tested for chemical compatibility with the expected spill exposure.

Keeping the Heat Where the Process Needs It

Pre-insulated Pipe Supports for Oil and Gas don’t always run at steam temperatures, but they are often heated or traced to keep the contents flowing. A support that allows heat to escape at one point can cause localized cooling that leads to wax deposition, hydrate formation, or viscosity increase. Our pre-insulated supports use a load-bearing insulation block selected for the specific design temperature:

Sub-zero to 85°C: high-density PIR for gas processing cold boxes, LPG storage, and chilled water to gas dehydration units.

Up to 140°C: PIR with elevated temperature rating for traced crude lines and hot oil systems.

Up to 400°C: calcium silicate for steam-traced bitumen lines, thermal oil heaters, and refinery process piping.

The block thickness matches the pipe insulation specification precisely, and the compressive strength is checked against the full hydrotest load — because a block that crushes during commissioning won’t insulate anything.

Fire Protection That Buys Time

On an offshore platform or in a gas plant, a support assembly that collapses during a fire removes restraint from the pipe, potentially leading to a rupture and escalation. We can integrate passive fire protection directly into the pre-insulated support: an intumescent or endothermic mat is bonded to the steel base and sidewalls beneath the cladding, and the assembly can be certified to maintain load-bearing integrity for a defined period under jet fire (ISO 22899) or cellulosic fire (ISO 834) exposure. This turns the support into part of the safety system, not just an energy-saving component.

Factory-Integrated Vapor Barrier Eliminates Site CUI Risks

Corrosion under insulation is the single most expensive inspection and repair item on many oil and gas plants. It nearly always starts at a support penetration where the vapor barrier is hand-cut and sealed with tape that loses adhesion after a few summers. Our supports come with a continuous metal sealing collar factory-welded to the support body. The site crew runs the pipe insulation jacket straight onto this collar and seals it with a specified adhesive or compression band. The result is a vapor-tight transition that can be visually inspected from the outside — and that won’t open up two years later.

Documentation Ready for Any Auditor

Every Pre-insulated Pipe Supports for Oil and Gas we supply to an oil and gas project includes:

EN 10204 Type 3.1 material certificates with HIC test results where sour service is specified.

Insulation block datasheets with compressive strength, thermal conductivity, and fire rating.

NDT reports for any welds, including PT/MT and radiography if requested.

Final dimensional inspection and load test certificates.

CE marking and Declaration of Performance under EU 305/2011 where applicable.

Typical Oil and Gas Applications

Wellhead production manifolds and gathering lines (onshore and offshore)

Gas dehydration and acid gas removal units

LPG and NGL storage and transfer piping

Refinery process units: crude distillation, hydrocracking, reforming

Bitumen and heavy oil heated lines

Offshore platform topsides and FPSO process modules

Why Tianshun for Oil and Gas Pre-Insulated Supports?

We understand that an oil and gas support specification is dense with material requirements, NACE compliance clauses, and fire protection demands. Our engineers read those specs line by line before producing a single drawing. We can cross-reference your pipe class, insulation standard, and structural loading to deliver a single assembly that checks every box — and we back it with the documentation to prove it. Over 70% of our clients come back for the next project, which is the strongest testimony we can offer.

FAQ

Q: Can your supports be used in sour service environments?

A: Yes. We supply supports with HIC-tested steel and NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 compliance for sour gas and crude oil applications.

Q: Do you offer fire-rated versions?

A: Yes. We can integrate passive fire protection rated for jet fire (H-60 or J-60) or cellulosic fire, maintaining load-bearing integrity during the rated period.

Q: How do you prevent insulation from absorbing oil or chemicals?

A: We use closed-cell materials like cellular glass or PIR that resist liquid hydrocarbon absorption. Open-cell insulation is never specified for oil and gas without a protective barrier.

Q: Can the supports handle the high point loads from heavy-wall pipe?

A: Absolutely. We calculate the bearing pressure under both operating and hydrotest conditions and select the insulation block grade accordingly.
