PTFE Expansion Joint

PTFE expansion joint is made of polytetrafluoroethylene bellows. It can absorb axial, lateral and angular displacement, damp vibration. It has excellent resistance to almost all strong acids, alkalis and organic solvents. Widely used in chemical corrosion pipelines, pharmaceutical and food clean systems. Custom sizes and anti-static PTFE are available.

The corrugated body of a tetrafluoroethylene expansion joint is molded from PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) and is divided into two main types: pure PTFE corrugated and steel-lined PTFE. Relying on the flexible deformation of the PTFE bellows, these PTFE Expansion Joint absorb axial, lateral, and angular displacements in pipelines, cushion equipment vibrations, and withstand highly corrosive media. They are specifically designed for chemical pipelines carrying strong acids, strong alkalis, and strong oxidizing agents—environments where metal bellows cannot be used—and are also suitable for high-purity, pharmaceutical, and food-grade clean piping systems.

    Product Structure

PTFE Bellows Body: The core elastic component that comes into direct contact with corrosive media

Metal Flanges / Carbon Steel Flanges: Connect pipelines and provide installation clamping force

Limit Rod Assembly (Optional): Limits maximum expansion and contraction, withstands internal pressure thrust, and prevents tensile failure of the bellows

Support Ring (Optional): Reinforces the root of the bellows and enhances stability under vacuum conditions

Outer Protective Sleeve (Optional): Protects the PTFE bellows from damage caused by external impacts

    Product Advantages

    1. Exceptional chemical corrosion resistance; resistant to virtually all strong acids, strong alkalis, strong oxidizing agents, and organic solvents

    2. Smooth inner wall prevents material adhesion and scaling; easy to clean in food and pharmaceutical applications

    3. Resistant to high and low temperatures with a wide operating range; material does not age or become brittle

    4. Capable of compensating for multi-directional displacement (axial, lateral, and angular) simultaneously, providing vibration damping and noise reduction

    5. High-purity material with no leaching, meeting the requirements for clean fluids in pharmaceutical, food, and semiconductor applications

    6. Lightweight and easy to install; compatible with pipe openings on brittle equipment such as enameled, graphite, and fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) components

    Applicable Conditions

Highly corrosive chemical process piping, hydrochloric acid/sulfuric acid/hydrofluoric acid lines, pharmaceutical and food-grade clean piping, high-purity fluid transport, vacuum piping, and flexible connections at pump and reactor inlets/outlets.

Suitable for: Highly corrosive media, high-purity media, and vibration damping and compensation for brittle equipment pipe connections.

Not suitable for: Ultra-high-temperature and high-pressure conditions (for extremely high pressures, metal expansion joints are recommended).

    Technical Specifications

Material: PTFE (pure polytetrafluoroethylene), steel-lined PTFE, customizable anti-static PTFE Nominal Diameter: DN25–DN600 Pressure Rating: PN0.6–PN2.5; reinforced versions available for vacuum applications Temperature Range: –200°C to +260°C Connection Type: Flanged Connection Compensation Capacity: Axial Displacement, Lateral Displacement, Angular Displacement

    Selection & Installation Guidelines

    1. PTFE is a relatively flexible material; in pressure or vacuum applications, limit rods must be installed and must not be omitted.

    2. Never exceed the compensation capacity to prevent corrugation tearing; remove the transport limiters after installation is complete.

    3. During installation, avoid forcing the flanges together or twisting them. Apply even clamping force to the flanges to prevent damage to the PTFE end faces.

    4. If the medium contains particulate matter that causes erosion, evaluate the need to install a flow guide sleeve to reduce bellows wear.

    5. When selecting a model, provide the medium, concentration, temperature, pressure, compensation capacity in all directions, and whether negative pressure (vacuum) is present.

Product R&D Capabilities and Manufacturing Expertise

Our engineering team consists of senior piping system engineers and welding specialists with 14 years of experience in metal bellows expansion joints and pipe supports/hangers. We serve the oil refining, petrochemical (including FCC units), and power generation sectors, as well as diverse engineering projects worldwide.

We perform design calculations and simulations in accordance with international standards such as EJMA, MSS-SP-58, EN14917, EN13480-3, GOST, ASME B31.1, and ASME B31.3. Our engineering services encompass bellows fatigue life assessment, instability (buckling) analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), and 3D CAD modeling—with the capability to provide IGES/SAT 3D models for client assembly interference checks.

We offer customized development for complex operating conditions, including multi-ply high-alloy bellows (e.g., Inconel 625, Hastelloy), pressure-balanced expansion joints for catalyst piping, and heavy-duty constant-load spring supports for high-temperature, large-displacement applications.

Our comprehensive manufacturing capabilities cover the forming of specialty materials, precision hydraulic bellows forming, certified automatic and manual welding, post-weld heat treatment (PWHT), 100% non-destructive testing (RT/PT/UT), and full-scale performance testing. We provide complete engineering documentation, including calculation reports, fabrication drawings, WPS/PQR, and Inspection and Test Plans (ITP). We also support clients with drawing reviews during the bidding phase and third-party inspections during project execution.

Over 70% of our business comes from long-term EPC clients and end-users across 45 countries. We are well-versed in the technical requirements for refinery projects in the Middle East and the CIS region, and can provide the necessary technical documentation for EAC/COC certification.
